Troy hotel gunshots result in no injuries

For the second time this month, shots were fired at a Troy hotel.

Troy police said someone went to the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, 2600 Livernois Road, at around 4 a.m. Dec. 12 and allegedly shot five rounds through  a glass doorwall and into a hotel room.

The room had a “Sweet 16” birthday party going on, attended by four teens who live in Detroit and Roseville, police said. Authorities added that the shots apparently did not hit or injure anyone.

Police said they currently don’t know why the shooting happened, but they said a pair of suspects reportedly fled from the scene after the incident occurred. Police said they used a K-9 unit to investigate, which took them to a spot by the post office a bit northward. That’s where police think the suspects entered a vehicle and got away.

“The suspects are described as two Black males, both aged 18 to 22 years old, of medium height and medium build,” Troy police said in a statement. “One was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.”

This incident follows another shooting incident that police said happened the night of Dec. 1 in the parking lot of the Hilton Garden Inn, located near Interstate 75 and Big Beaver Road in Troy. At the time, police said, multiple guns were fired, breaking two hotel windows but apparently injuring no one.

When asked whether the two incidents were related, Troy Police Sgt. Meghan Lehman said in a text message that “there’s no connection.”

“We have interviewed several people in both incidents,” she added. “There’s no info to release on suspects due to this being active (both investigations).”
