WARREN — A woman and two men are expected to face armed robbery charges after at least two alleged heists that apparently started with social media interactions.

Detective Sgt. Rob Eidt, of the Warren Police Department, said the first alleged incident took place at 7:41 p.m. June 27 near apartments in the 29400 block of Hoover Road.

“This guy meets a female on social media and they start talking,” Eidt said. The woman, later identified by police as a 21-year-old resident of Sterling Heights, allegedly inquired about obtaining marijuana, at which point the victim reportedly agreed to meet with her.

“She parks in the parking lot. Our victim comes with four buddies. The victim and one of his buddies walk up to the car that she’s in and start talking with her,” Eidt said.

At that point, the two other suspects — both 21 and from Warren, one reportedly being the woman’s boyfriend — allegedly confronted the two people still in the vehicle the intended victim arrived in and robbed them of their phones, money and credit cards at gunpoint. The men then allegedly went on to confront the other two men in the vehicle with the woman. One of the victims was reportedly assaulted before all three suspects left in a vehicle.

Another robbery reportedly took place June 29 outside a vacant home in the 21400 block of Panama, near Mound and Toepfer roads.

“A female and male meet up through social media. She entices him to come down and hang out with her so they can smoke (marijuana),” Eidt said. “He’s parked in the car, in the driveway, and she said, ‘Yeah, my parents don’t let me smoke in the house.’”

The woman reportedly got into the car, after which the two men allegedly robbed the victim of his backpack and car keys at gunpoint.

“They were all acting in concert,” Eidt said. “The pictures on the social media account were actually of her, so we were able to, through some search warrants, access the social media account, which led us to be able to identify the female.”

The woman was arrested at about 4:30 p.m. July 3 near Nine Mile Road and Interstate 75 in Hazel Park. The investigation then led police to the two men, who could also face weapons charges.

Armed robbery is punishable by any number of years up to life in prison.
