SHELBY TOWNSHIP — At approximately 4:37 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, the Shelby Township Police and Fire departments responded to reports of a serious injury accident on 24 Mile Road, west of Van Dyke Avenue.

A 65-year-old Shelby Township woman was driving west on 24 Mile Road when her silver 2014 Ford Focus crossed the center line into eastbound traffic and collided head-on with an eastbound silver 2013 Toyota Sienna driven by a 46-year-old Shelby Township woman, according to a police press release.

An early morning accident on Mound Road involving an SUV and a pedestrian led to the latter’s death Jan. 27, according to Sterling Heights police.

Police believe the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on northbound Mound, a bit north of Fox Hill Drive.

“(The pedestrian) is walking in the right curb lane in the roadway of Mound, near Fox Hill. A driver from Canada driving a black Toyota Sequoia is also traveling northbound in the right curb lane,” said Sterling Heights Police Lt. Aaron Burgess.

Police are still investigating a fatal accident that happened Tuesday night on Square Lake Road.

According to a statement from Sgt. Kim Comerford, of the Traffic Investigations Unit of the Bloomfield Township Police Department, officers responded to reports of a two-car crash at 9 p.m. Jan. 24.

“Reports indicate a 2014 Maserati traveling eastbound on Square Lake rear-ended a 2009 Subaru Legacy traveling in the same direction,” Comerford explained in the statement.

Police are investigating what caused a Jeep to apparently careen out of control and strike two other vehicles Jan. 16, leading to the deaths of two people.

According to a police command officer, a black Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound on Ryan Road, north of 17 Mile Road, at approximately 11:21 a.m.

The Jeep veered left into northbound traffic at a “high rate of speed” and struck a black Lincoln MKZ’s passenger side, according to a police report. Then the Jeep reportedly rammed head-on into a white Chrysler Town and Country minivan.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place until late Jan. 12 after high winds knocked down several power lines, which caused the traffic signal at Maple Road and Maplelawn to fall to the roadway just after 7 a.m. Jan. 11.

Troy Police Sgt. Meghan Lehman said that temporary traffic signals were in place, but the left turn lanes to Maplelawn were shut down.

A local man was ordered to remove his pants and shoes during a recent carjacking.

According to a news release from Deputy Chief Nick Loussia, of the Southfield Police Department, police were called to the 20000 block of Westland, near Eight Mile and Evergreen, on report of a carjacking around 3:10 a.m. Jan. 4.

A 30-year-old Southfield man told police he was leaving his home when he saw a blue or green older-model Chrysler vehicle pull up behind him. The man said there was a blue flashing light on the dashboard of the vehicle, so he believed it was a police car.

Troy firefighters were called to free a driver trapped in his Chevy Trailblazer that had rolled over on southbound John R Road, at Elliott Drive, near Oakland Mall, just before 9:30 p.m. Dec. 21.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the Trailblazer on its side and the man trapped inside, unhurt, Troy Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Riesterer said in a prepared statement.

Firefighters used support struts to stabilize the vehicle, then opened the vehicle from the roof, helped the man to safety and turned him over to paramedics for medical evaluation, according to reports.

A fire erupted at the top of the 555 Building on Woodward Avenue Dec. 22.

According to Birmingham Assistant Fire Chief John Donohue, the blaze was reported at 10:15 a.m. Since the fire was at the top of the high-rise, the flames and smoke could reportedly be seen blocks away.

“The fire was on the 14th floor, extending to the 15th,” Donahue told reporters at the scene. “At this time the fire is under investigation. It is unknown if the fire started at the exterior or the interior.”

Both directions of Little Mack Avenue between 13 Mile Road and Masonic were closed at approximately 10 p.m. Dec. 18 due to a crash that caused a woman to be treated at a local hospital, according to Roseville Deputy Police Chief Donald Glandon.

In a press release Dec. 19, Glandon stated that the woman transported to the hospital “is expected to recover from her injuries.”

A 2004 red Ford Taurus was northbound on Little Mack and attempting to enter the ramp for westbound I-94, according to Glandon. The vehicle was operated by a 55-year-old Roseville woman.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — An 18-year-old man from Chesterfield Township died after his car collided head-on with another vehicle on N. River Road in Harrison Township Dec. 19.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the crash occurred at approximately 2:46 a.m. The victim, later identified as Michael Mollahan, was driving a 2007 BMW east on N. River Road when he attempted to pass a 2004 Saab.

When Mollahan crossed the center line, he collided head-on with a westbound 2010 Chevy Malibu.

Wickersham reports Mollahan was killed as a result of the impact.

A Beverly Hills man is recovering at home after being stabbed by his Uber driver early on Saturday.

According to Bloomfield Township police, officers responded to the parking lot of a shopping center at Maple and Cranbrook roads around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. The caller said someone had been stabbed in a fight, and officers found two men fighting in the back of a 2012 Honda Civic.

Firefighters responded to two incidents within seven hours Dec. 13.

Firefighters were called to a building fire on Elliott Street, near John R and 14 Mile roads, just after 8:45 a.m. Dec. 13 to find a fire in a filter unit in the back of a large, 1 ½-story industrial building.

According to reports, firefighters checked the inside of the building, determined that the fire had not spread, contained the fire to the filter unit and extinguished it.

MADISON HEIGHTS — An officer from the Madison Heights Police Department was involved in a car crash the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 6.

According to a news release issued by Madison Heights Police Lt. Michael Siladke, the officer was driving through the intersection at Dartmouth Street and University Avenue around 5:36 a.m. when another vehicle reportedly disregarded a stop sign and crashed into the officer’s patrol vehicle.

TROY — A man reportedly got out of his white Volvo just after 7:15 p.m. Dec. 3 on northbound Adams Road, south of South Boulevard, and pointed a handgun at a woman, police said. 

According to police reports, the woman driving behind the Volvo mistakenly thought the roadway changed to two lanes and pulled alongside the Volvo. Police said she realized the second lane she was traveling in was ending, so she slowed down to let the man in the Volvo pass her.

Sterling Heights police took four men into custody after reportedly discovering a large supply of what is described as “high-potency marijuana” from outside the state.

Police said they initiated a traffic stop during the afternoon of Nov. 30 in the 33000 block of Van Dyke Avenue, north of 14 Mile Road. Inside the vehicle was a stash of about 200 pounds of prepackaged, illegal marijuana, police said. Officers then arrested the three male suspects inside the vehicle.

TROY — Police confiscated a .45-caliber handgun from two men who repeatedly rammed squad cars with a 2005 Dodge Caravan while trying to flee from officers at 11:45 p.m. Nov. 23. 

Capt. Bob Redmond said the officers suffered bruises and other injuries that did not require medical treatment, and three police squad cars were not drivable. 

Police received a report that two men were seen breaking into vehicles parked in a lot at 750 Stephenson Highway, then got into the van and fled the area.

A 30-year-old Troy man died after he was ejected from a car he was driving on southbound Interstate 75 at Crooks Road in the early hours of Nov. 20.

According to Troy police, Joshua Watkins was driving a black 2013 Cadillac CTS with a 21-year-old Pontiac woman in the passenger seat at 3:10 a.m. when he lost control of the car and struck the median guardrail.

Police said the car travelled across the freeway and hit the guardrail on the shoulder and overturned.

Local authorities are searching for clues that could lead to information on a deadly incident recently.

According to Lt. Ted Goff, of the Southfield Police Department, two officers were on patrol around 11 p.m. Nov. 7 at Eight Mile and Northland Drive when a Farmington Hills driver, 54, travelling westbound crossed into the median and crashed his vehicle into a tree.

Goff said that when the officers went to the man’s aid he was semiconscious. Paramedics discovered that the man had been shot once in the left shoulder.

CLAWSON — Police say it could be weeks before blood tests reveal the exact cause of a serious car crash last week that hospitalized a mother and her 9-year-old son.

“The case remains under investigation,” said Clawson Police Department Detective Lt. Scott Sarvello, adding that they were not releasing the names of those involved or further details at this time.

Sarvello said late last week that speed and alcohol did not appear to be a factor, but the use of prescription medications by the driver is being investigated.
