SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Shelby Township will host a Veterans Day celebration from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Shelby Township municipal campus, 52700 Van Dyke Ave. in Shelby Township.

Every year, Shelby Township holds a special event to honor those who served their country.

“Our township and community have a great chance each year to express our collective gratitude to all veterans, thanks to the tremendous organizing efforts of Shelby Township Veterans Coordinator Mr. Phil Randazzo and others. I hope that many people will join our celebration. I know that veterans would truly appreciate it,” said Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis.

The event will feature live music from Music Maker Studio in Shelby Township and will be located at the band shell on the municipal grounds. The celebration will begin with the national anthem.

There will be activities for kids during the celebration, such as a bounce house.

Randazzo will have a guest speaker during the event.

“The ceremony has been going on for 20 years, and it’s the first time it’s on a Sunday, and we will be honoring and respecting veterans, and the special guest will be a lieutenant colonel from India in the Indian Army that approached me at a meeting. ... I’m excited to have him as a new guest during the ceremony,” Randazzo said.

Wreaths will be laid during the ceremony in honor of those who were lost.

There will be hot dogs, coffee and doughnuts provided by local businesses.

The celebration will immediately follow the Running with Heroes Veterans 5K Run, which will take place at the Shelby Township municipal campus.

The celebration, run and ceremony are open to all.

“Our Veterans Day celebration is a great way for our residents to come out and honor our veterans and be able to spend the day in their company. We pride ourselves on our veteran community here in Shelby Township, and it never ceases to amaze me at how much support our community has for those who have served,” Shelby Township Deputy Supervisor Chelsea Oland said in an email.
