MOUNT CLEMENS — At press time, a suspect was in critical, but stable, condition after being shot multiple times during an attempted armed robbery at a Mount Clemens gas station on April 24.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, a masked armed assailant entered the Mobil gas station at 116 S. Main St. at approximately 5:10 p.m. and attempted to rob the clerk and customers inside.

Deputies, who responded to the scene on a call of multiple shots fired, arrived and located the injured suspect. Sgt. Renee Yax said the suspect, a 27-year-old man from Clinton Township, had been shot by the gas station clerk six times.

There were no other injuries.

A press release from the Sheriff’s Office states that detectives would be presenting information to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office within the next several days. The Prosecutor’s Office would then make the decision on any charges authorized against either the clerk or the suspect.

The suspect, who was in possession of a .22-caliber revolver handgun, is also reportedly being investigated as a possible suspect in other recent armed robberies.

Detectives were still working to gather surveillance video in their investigation at press time.
