The Farmington Hills Police Department is investigating an incident in which a suspicious person reportedly approached a child at around 4 p.m. Oct. 15 in the area of Liberty and Middlebelt roads.

The man — described as white, heavy set, with short hair and wearing a black coat — driving a white box utility van approached the child.

The child reportedly was walking in that area when the driver stopped the vehicle and began to speak to the child, according to a police press release.

According to the report, the man did not leave the vehicle, but he asked the child if the child was cold and if the child wanted him to call someone, or if the child wanted to get in the vehicle to stay warm.

Detectives are actively investigating the report, and officers are conducting increased patrols in the area, the release said.

Anyone with information on this incident is requested to call the Farmington Hills Police Department Command Desk at (248) 871-2610.
