ROCHESTER HILLS — A student from Stoney Creek High School has died after being hit by a car while walking home from school Oct. 18.

According to reports from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened around 2:36 p.m. about a mile from the high school, on eastbound Tienken Road, near Clear Creek Drive. Authorities said the speed limit on Tienken Road at the crash site is 40 mph.

In an email to district families, Superintendent Robert Shaner said the school’s liaison officer quickly arrived on the scene and tended to the student until emergency medical services could arrive.

The Stoney Creek senior, a resident of Rochester Hills, was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

The driver, a 16-year-old male from Shelby Township, is a junior at Stoney Creek and was not injured in the accident, according to reports. Investigators said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

On Oct. 24, Shaner sent an email to district families to inform them of the Stoney Creek High School senior’s death and provide information from the National Association of School Psychologists to help children cope with grief and loss.

“Our community is truly heartbroken. It is with deep sadness that we inform you about the passing of Elisa Volcic, a senior at Stoney Creek High School. Our thoughts and prayers are with Elisa’s family and friends during this very difficult time,” Shaner said in the email.

Volcic was described as a talented student heavily involved in the school’s music programs.

Shaner said counselors and support staff are available to help students. If families need assistance, Shaner said they may also reach out to their school administrator.

“We are a tight-knit community at Rochester Community Schools, and it is important that our students and staff know that we are here to help them,” Shaner said in the email.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the Volcic family at
