HARRISON TOWNSHIP — The Michigan State Police said a man suffered a medical issue, which caused him to crash his vehicle through the gates of Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township Dec. 18.

In their initial release, officials from Selfridge Air National Guard Base stated that an unidentified couple drove their vehicle through the main gates of the base Dec. 18 in the area of Hall Road and Jefferson Avenue in Harrison Township.

Force protection barriers were able to stop the vehicle from continuing onto the base.

Lt. Calvin Hart, assistant post commander with the Michigan State Police Metro North Post in Oak Park, said the driver of the vehicle suffered a medical issue, causing him to lose control of the car. The man and his female passenger suffered only minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Selfridge officials stated that the main gate at Hall Road and Jefferson Avenue remained closed as a result of the incident at press time.
