A local pub is closed for a short time due to a small fire in the kitchen, according to St. Clair Shores Fire Department officials.

The Fire Department was called to Firehouse Pub and Grill, 23018 Greater Mack Ave., around 11:13 p.m. March 1, said Fire Marshal M. Bodnar.

“It was a little minor rag cloth fire that was on the floor and it just caught fire,” Bodnar said. “They were doing cooking operations. One of the rags got a little too close to the heat and sparked up.”

Bodnar said that the restaurant was open at the time and, erring on the side of caution, the building was evacuated. Because the establishment serves food, however, it cannot reopen until it is re-inspected by the Macomb County Health Department.

Bodnar said there was minor damage from the fire extinguishers and that the operators were working to try to reopen in time for the following weekend.

There does not appear to be any damage to any cooking appliances from the fire, Bodnar said.

A cook was transported to the hospital to be checked out, but did not sustain any injuries in the fire.

According to a March 2 post on the Firehouse Pub Bar and Grill’s Facebook page, the establishment was temporarily closed due to the small kitchen fire.
