MACOMB TOWNSHIP — Four women working at a Macomb Township business were taken into custody recently, with a pair now facing prostitution-related charges.

On Feb. 24, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff’s Enforcement Team, or SET, served a search warrant upon the Relax Spa Massage in the 47200 block of Hayes Road, north of 21 Mile Road.

Police say the business had no clients at the time the search warrant was served, but four women were taken into custody for prostitution crimes.

“SET received a tip that the Relax Spa Massage was allegedly operating as a house of prostitution and began to investigate the business,” a press release states. “The investigation showed the business is managed by a female out of Shelby Township and has three female employees.”

During the investigation, police said undercover detectives entered the business on several occasions and were propositioned for sexual acts by the women working. The manager was present at the business, accepting money for services.

A search of the business produced several ledgers and cash.

The investigation also showed that the manager was a primary source of transportation for the employees.

Also on Feb. 24, a search warrant was executed at the manager’s Shelby Township home, where officials found additional ledgers, business documentation and cash.

Authorities say that more than $110,000 was seized from both locations.

SET was assisted by U.S. Homeland Security and Macomb Area Computer Enforcement.

Charges have been filed against two of the employees, both residing in Sterling Heights, with the manager being released.

The employees, 58 and 59 years old, are charged with one misdemeanor count of prostitution/accosting and soliciting.

SET continues to work with Homeland Security regarding their immigration status.

The employees were given a $5,000 personal bond and are scheduled to return to court on March 18 for a probable cause conference.

In 2018, a similar case appeared in Macomb Township when the owner and manager of a massage parlor, also at 21 Mile and Hayes roads, were charged with running a prostitution operation out of the business.

The employees are listed on 41-A District Court in Shelby Township’s website as being represented by a legal defender, with no attorney being assigned to the case as of press time.
