Royal Oak police investigating carjacking, shooting

ROYAL OAK — Royal Oak police are searching for two suspects involved in the carjacking, robbery and shooting of a delivery driver Jan. 12.

At approximately 9:27 p.m. Jan. 12, police responded to a report of a carjacking in which the driver of the vehicle had been shot in the leg in the 700 block of South Gainsborough Avenue, near Lincoln Avenue and South Campbell Road.

The victim was delivering groceries to a residence on the block when two men approached him and demanded that the victim give them his keys, wallet and cellphone. The victim complied and was shot in the leg as he ran away, according to a police press release.

Police said both suspects fled southbound on South Gainsborough Avenue in the victim’s vehicle — a gray 2007 Toyota Camry with Michigan license plate 5MPN71.

One suspect was described as a Black man in his early to mid-20s who stood 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighed approximately 160 pounds. The second suspect was described as a Black man in his early to mid-20s who stood 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighed 190 pounds.

Police said the victim was transported to Beaumont Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police declined to comment on the incident beyond the press release issued at approximately 12:33 a.m. Jan. 13.
