CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Rock 4 Tots is returning for its 12th year.

The annual fundraiser raises money for toys that are delivered to children as part of the Clinton Township Goodfellows’ “No Child Without a Christmas.” It will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and from 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 15, at Freddy’s Bar & Grill, 40000 Garfield Road in Clinton Township.

Organizers say the event has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception. Originally starting as a one-off fundraiser during the holidays, it has morphed into a must-see event that combines music and the magic of Christmas. Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised.

“This is one of the very few fundraisers that doesn’t use any donated money for overhead and has always worked with zero budget. (It’s) just hope and belief,” said event co-director Joe Evangelista. “It has always been a true Christmas miracle for many children and families.”

Goodfellows President Paul Silvestri noted that good deeds are called upon for community individuals and families each year, and it never really goes away.

“The need is out there, but a lot of people don’t see it,” he said. “A lot of families might just be living day to day, and those are the types of people who we want to help.”

This year, there are 56 musical acts expected to hit the stage for 20-minute sets, performing their own jams along with some holiday tunes.

In the past, bands had to be found to perform. Nowadays, the bands are reaching out to the fundraiser organizers.

“We don’t even solicit acts anymore, as bands go out of their way to play, and it gives them a rare chance to see other local bands for a night of cheer,” said event emcee and co-director Scott Randall, of 101 WRIF-FM. “It makes me sad that we have to turn some bands away.”

Event organizer Howie Herula added, “It’s one of the events I’m most proud to be a part of, truly a must-attend event for all.”

Santa Claus will be on hand from 2 to 6 p.m. each day to take photos with attendees young and old. There will also be raffles, including prizes of two electric guitars from Guitar Center, personalized “swag” from Ted Nugent, and the Rock 4 Tots “Rock Box” that will be filled with items from all musical acts.

Guests wearing sweaters on Saturday or pajamas on Sunday will be entered in a random drawing for a special prize each day.

Admission costs either $5, or a new, unwrapped toy. Donations can be mailed directly to the Goodfellows, c/o Rock-4-Tots, P.O. Box 380643, Clinton Township, MI 48036. Checks must be made payable to the Clinton Township Goodfellows.
