A local firefighter is recovering from burns received while working to put out a garage fire over the weekend.

Crews from the Rochester Hills Fire Department were dispatched to a garage fire in the 3400 block of John R at around 6 a.m. May 17.

Firefighters arrived to find a detached garage in the back of the property fully engulfed in flames. A vehicle inside the garage was also on fire, so Byers Towing assisted the Fire Department in moving the vehicle out of the garage so crews could battle the flames.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in approximately 25 minutes, according to reports. One firefighter was burned at the scene and was transported to a local hospital.

The cause of the fire was under investigation at press time.
