SHELBY TOWNSHIP — If you’re looking for fun, some yummy desserts and food for the holiday, you’ll want to come out to Woman’s Life Chapter 911’s first pie raffle and Thanksgiving dinner giveaway Nov. 22.

The event will be held at Dooleys Tavern, located at 51748 Van Dyke Ave. in Shelby Township. Lynn Karnes, the Woman’s Life Chapter 911 president, said that after having meat raffles in the past, it was time to try something new.

“We have had so many successful meat raffles, we decided to try something new with Thanksgiving coming up. You could win a pie and support the community at the same time,” Karnes said in an email.

Forty different types of pies will be raffled off from Nitsches Meats & Deli, and one lucky person will win a turkey with all the trimmings for their holiday dinner.

Doors to the event will open at 5 p.m., and the event will run 6-8 p.m. An admission price of $10 per person includes 50 chances to win the pies. To make the odds of winning more likely, an additional $5 will add 25 more chances to win the pies.

Jim Arnone, the owner of Dooleys Tavern, said Dooleys is happy to host the fundraiser and to help the group raise money for those in need.

“We are excited to be hosting this event with Woman’s Life Chapter 911. Dooleys Tavern welcomes and hosts many events with this organization, and Lynn Karnes raises monies for deserving charities. We are very appreciative to have the opportunity to help in our community,” Arnone said in an email.

A ticket for one chance to win the 15-pound turkey with all the trimmings costs $5, or $10 buys three chances.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase during the event. Tickets to attend the event will be available at the door, but only 60 seats are available.

Amy Linsmeyer, a member of Woman’s Life Chapter 911, said she looks forward to the fun event and possibly winning a pie.

“I’ll be volunteering at our upcoming pie raffle and Thanksgiving dinner giveaway, and (I) am looking forward to a great turnout, the opportunity to meet others in the area, and of course a chance to take home some delicious pie! As a fairly new member, I was most surprised by all the ways I can get involved and support our community, and (I) am excited to chair the upcoming cookie exchange and packaging for our local first responders,” Linsmeyer said in an email.

The cookie exchange and packaging for local first responders will be held Dec. 8 in Sterling Heights.
