MADISON HEIGHTS — There was an increase in calls for service in Madison Heights in 2015, but a decrease in the number of arrests and reported crimes, according to numbers recently released by the Madison Heights Police Department.

From 2014 to 2015, calls for service rose from 25,594 to 26,112, while arrests dropped from 1,131 to 1,074 and reported crimes dropped from 2,139 to 1,873.

WARREN — A Warren man accused of assaulting an 88-year-old resident and stealing her purse at a local market remained jailed with bail set at $250,000 March 8 ahead of his next appearance before a 37th District Court judge.

Steven Boyd, 44, was arrested by officers assigned to the Warren Police Department’s Special Operations Unit on Feb. 26, just hours after he allegedly injured a senior citizen during a strong-arm robbery at the Oak Ridge Market on Ryan, south of 11 Mile Road.

GROSSE POINTE FARMS — A stabbing on a quiet Grosse Pointe Farms street left one of its residents clinging to life as police began trying to piece together what happened on an otherwise peaceful Sunday afternoon.

Yellow police tape and police cars with flashing lights cordoned off roughly a block in the area of Voltaire Place and Vendome Road for hours after a man was discovered bleeding profusely and lying on the sidewalk by a female passerby, who immediately called police around 4:30 p.m. March 6.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 46-year-old Madison Heights man was arrested by deputies Feb. 27 in Macomb Township.

The man, David Allen Mapley, is now facing six charges related to his arrest.

Mapley allegedly placed an advertisement on a popular website, and detectives posing as an underage girl responded to the post.

MOUNT CLEMENS — Angela Alexie, an Eastpointe resident charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse, went to trial in Macomb County Circuit Court March 1 for her actions that allegedly caused her newborn son’s death in December 2014.

After the trial stretched to a fourth day, the jury found Alexie guilty of first-degree child abuse and first-degree felony murder — meaning she caused the infant’s death as the result of felonious behavior. Her criminal sentencing was scheduled for April 19.

MOUNT CLEMENS — Eastpointe resident Timothy Fradeneck was sentenced in Macomb County Circuit Court March 1 to life in prison without parole, which followed a plea in which he accepted guilt for the 2015 murders of his wife, Christie Fradeneck, 37, and two children, Tim, 8, and Celeste, 2.

Fradeneck, 38, received five life sentences without parole and two sentences of 18-30 years; he had a total of seven charges brought against him, including first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse. The sentences will run concurrently.

MADISON HEIGHTS — When firefighters arrived at a parking lot in Madison Heights to put out a car fire, they found something unexpected inside — a dead man.

Shoppers at Amori’s Market at 26122 John R, noticed the car fire in the parking lot the night of Sunday, March 6. The store manager called 911, and firefighters and police arrived on the scene around 9:05 p.m.

WARREN — A Warren man accused of killing his wife in their home near Stephens and Hayes was ordered held without bond last week during his arraignment on a first-degree murder charge.

Devon Williams, 25, was taken into custody at 10:23 a.m. March 2 after police arrived at a home in the 23500 block of Columbus, where they found his wife, Michelle Williams, also 25, unresponsive.

MOUNT CLEMENS — A young shih tzu mix is reportedly recovering and in good spirits while in foster care after being thrown from a moving vehicle in Mount Clemens Feb. 29.

Macomb County Animal Control Chief Jeff Randazzo said the male dog broke his pelvis in the incident.

“He will be nursed back to health for a while; we’re hoping without a cast,” Randazzo said. “Right now we’re looking at cage healing. He’s been released from our veterinary clinic and is now in foster care.”

On March 3, 41-A District Court Judge Douglas Shepherd agreed to sentence Gregory Bobchick, 18, of Shelby Township, under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act in regard to his second minor in possession charge.

Under HYTA, if Bobchick complies with his sentencing guidelines and restrictions, the conviction will be erased from his record. The misdemeanor carries a $100 fine and/or 90-day jail sentence.

SOUTHFIELD — A Southfield artist described as one of Detroit’s finest is facing charges in the recent crash death of a local woman.

According to a news release from Wayne County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Maria Miller, Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Marcus Omar Glenn, 48, of Southfield, with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol causing death.

FRASER — In the Information Age, sales tend to be done through email and specific vendor websites.

Part of that process includes meeting with relative strangers in public places for a first encounter to make a transaction. Now, the process in Fraser does not have to be so dubious.

The city, in a decision supported by the Fraser Department of Public Safety, has planned to install two parking spaces specific to e-commerce sales as a deterrent to potential thefts and other crimes.

Following testimony from witnesses called by the prosecution, 42-1 District Court Judge Denis LeDuc agreed to add a third and fourth count against a defendant accused of obstructing a police officer and carjacking. LeDuc also bound over the case to circuit court.

Paul Bukowski, an assistant prosecutor with the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, amended his complaint to add a count of armed robbery and a count of assault with a deadly weapon against Michael Garrett, 30, of Pontiac.

ROYAL OAK — Police are looking for more information about a suspect wanted for a possible attempted home invasion last week on the city’s east side.

“This case has been assigned to a detective and is being investigated,” said Royal Oak Police Department Criminal Investigations Division Lt. David Clemens. “No further information is available at this time.”

A resident in the 300 block of North Wilson Avenue saw an unknown person standing at his side door at about 5:30 a.m. Feb. 25 attempting to open the locked screen door.

MOUNT CLEMENS — A Mount Clemens man had authorities searching for two armed gunmen Feb. 26 after claiming that he had been caught in the crossfire of a shootout near the city’s downtown area.

Macomb County Sheriff’s Lt. John Michalke said the 49-year-old man claimed that he was traveling in a motorized wheelchair near Park and Court streets at around 3 p.m. when he found himself in the middle of a gunfight between two other men.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the man still on the phone with dispatch with a gunshot wound to his left calf.

ROSEVILLE — On Friday, Feb. 19, police arrested four students — 17-year-old Da’lon Ashford, of Detroit, and three juveniles — at Roseville High School for having guns at school reportedly in anticipation of an after-school fight with students from another school.

The police investigation determined that a juvenile subject had taken two handguns from his home that were registered to an undisclosed individual, brought them to school and passed them around between the four students, whom police said had classes together.

WARREN — Two people were wounded, one man was in custody, and another was reportedly on the run after a shooting at a home near Eight Mile and Groesbeck early on Feb. 21.

Detective Sgt. Stephen Mills, of the Warren Police Department, said the search continued at press time for a 25-year-old Macomb Township man who allegedly fired multiple rounds after two other men became involved in an altercation during a family party at a home in the 12000 block of Georgiana just after 2 a.m.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Chippewa Valley High School officials reported that a threat made to the school over social media Friday morning was determined not credible enough to cancel classes.

Diane Blain, the school district's director of community relations, said the threats were posted on Twitter, and Clinton Township police are investigating.

MACOMB COUNTY/GROSSE POINTES - Michigan State Police troopers and Macomb County Sheriff deputies were involved in a chase of a reportedly stolen U-Haul truck at approximately 1 a.m. Feb. 24.

Lieutenant John Michalke of the Macomb County Sheriff’s department said the chase began on westbound I-94 at 23 Mile Road, and ended on Lake Shore Road in Grosse Pointe. Michalke said sheriff’s deputies joined the State Police in the chase on I-94 at Hall Road.

TROY — Troy police arrested a man they say answered two Craigslist ads for iPhones for sale, shorted one seller and took the phone from the second seller and ran away without paying.

Troy Police Capt. Robert Redmond said the man agreed to meet the first seller at the McDonald’s at 36895 Dequindre Road just after 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 to purchase an iPhone 6 for $675. 

According to reports, the seller gave the man the phone, and the man gave the seller an envelope with money.
