FARMINGTON HILLS — The Farmington Hills Police Department is asking for the public’s help in apprehending a home invasion suspect.

At 7:34 p.m. Jan. 12, the Farmington Hills Police Department responded to a report of a home invasion in the 28000 block of Peppermill Street near the area of 12 Mile Road and Farmington Road.

“We’re looking for the public's help (with) anything they can provide,” Lieutenant Paul Nicholas said.

The homeowner arrived home and interrupted a crime, according to a press release.

The suspect was described as a white man with a thin build and approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall in his late 20s or early 30s, and wearing a tan Carhartt jacket with a hood.

Nicholas said the suspect was on foot when the homeowner first came home and then went into his truck to escape, described as a white, pickup truck, possibly a Dodge Ram.
Nicholas said the truck stands out because the vehicle is a standard cab and not extended.

Nicholas added that the suspect was in the homeowner’s attached garage before getting into his truck and driving away.

“I have information that there was at least one item taken, but don't want to get into details (because) that might be important to the investigation,” Nicholas said.

The suspect fled the location driving toward the homeowner, a concealed pistol license holder.

The homeowner fired two shots at the suspect’s truck, which fled the area, driving northbound on Farmington Road then onto eastbound 13 Mile Road. The truck was seen driving eastbound on 13 Mile and drove through a red traffic signal at Orchard Lake Road.

The truck was involved in a crash on 13 Mile at Middlebelt Road, but continued driving eastbound on 13 Mile. The truck may have front end accident damage with a bullet hole in the front grill and the driver’s side rear tire or rear bed area, according to the press release.

“He left at a pretty high rate of speed and going through red lights at a dangerous speed and had a collision with two other vehicles,” Nicholas said. “By the time officers were able to get headed in the right direction (they) lost sight of him pretty quickly.”
