CENTER LINE — The suspect in a Nov. 12 shooting outside the Te Roma bar on Van Dyke Avenue later used a gun to take his own life, the Center Line Public Safety Department confirmed.

According to a media release from the department, public safety officers were dispatched to Te Roma, located on the east side of Van Dyke at Kaltz Street, at about 9 p.m. in response to a reported shooting. First responders found one male victim and learned that the suspect had fled the scene.

The victim was reportedly transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition Nov. 13.

Investigators were able to quickly learn the suspect’s identity and found him dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a family home in the city of Warren, according to Lt. Steven Hilla, of the Center Line Public Safety Department.

The suspect was not immediately identified and no other information was released. Hilla said the investigation remained ongoing at press time.

“At this time, we are not sure of the suspect/victim connection,” Hilla said last week. He added that investigators are still looking into a report that the suspect indicated that he had won a lottery of some kind prior to the shooting.
