Diners can sample a smorgasbord of tastes from the finest Troy establishments when more than 30 restaurateurs once again bring it on at the San Marino Club for the PNC Bank Taste of Troy to benefit the Troy Boys & Girls Club.

The theme this year is “Viaggo Italiano,” which means “Italian journey.”

“Think Rome, Venice, traveling via gondola, the Coliseum, la dolce vita (the sweet life) and lots of mouth-watering food prepared by Troy’s finest restaurants,” said Steve Toth, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Troy, a nonprofit youth development organization that aims to provide educational and recreational activities in addition to counseling programs for more than 1,200 children ages 6 to 18 in Oakland and Macomb counties. The club aims to provide a positive environment to enable members to become responsible, self-reliant, caring adults.

Cindy Stewart, chair of the event and a member of the Boys & Girls Club board, said the restaurants will have fun with the theme.

“It’s something to look forward to during the long, cold winter,” Stewart said.

On average, the yearly event raises more than $55,000 for the club, which accounts for about 10 percent of its budget.

The event will feature entertainment from Big Will and the 360 Degrees Band, a live auction, a silent auction and a raffle. Attendees can bid on gift baskets, and spa, hotel and restaurant gift certificates in the silent auction. Diners can enjoy music and be a part of the live auction with WDIV TV 4 meteorologist Andrew Humphrey. Attendees and newspaper, magazine, TV and radio reporters judge both the food and décor of each booth for People’s Choice and Critic’s Choice awards.

This year’s cuisine is offered by Achatz Handmade Pie Co., Brio Tuscan Grill, Crumpets Restaurant at Somerset Inn, Edible Arrangements, Franco’s Gaelic & Garlic, Kalamata Greek Café, Kim’s Restaurant, Kona Grill, La Marsa, Maggiano’s Little Italy, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood, The Melting Pot of Troy, Morton’s The Steakhouse, Noodles & Co., Ocean Prime, Orchid Café – Fine Thai Cuisine, P.F.
