Pair charged in connection with armed robbery in St. Clair Shores

ST. CLAIR SHORES — A 23-year-old man from Detroit and a 25-year-old woman from Clinton Township were recently charged in connection with an Aug. 2 armed robbery at Wendy’s, 31159 Harper Ave.

According to a press release from the St. Clair Shores Police Department, dispatch received a call from the restaurant at 9:55 p.m. Aug. 2. Employees told police that three subjects, armed with handguns, entered the restaurant and ordered everyone inside to the ground.

One employee was ordered to open the store safe. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money and left the restaurant.

Between Aug. 14 and 15, St. Clair Shores police arrested two people in connection with the robbery. 

Daymion Darnell Smiley was arraigned in front of 40th District Court Magistrate Mark Metry Aug. 15 on charges of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and felony firearm. He was given a $200,000 cash-or-surety bond, but had not posted bond as of press time Aug. 16. He had no attorney on record, according to the court.

Shakearia Monique Maye was also arraigned in front of Metry that day. She faces charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and was given a $50,000 cash-or-surety bond. She had not posted bond as of press time and did not have an attorney on record. 

St. Clair Shores police said that they are still investigating the crime.
