WEST BLOOMFIELD — West Bloomfield Township Supervisor Steven Kaplan recently confirmed that this year's Orchard Lake Fine Art Show has been cancelled.

The event had been scheduled for July 25-26.

Kaplan said this would have been the 18th year for the event.

Fears over COVID-19 are to blame for the cancellation.

“The township board unanimously revoked the permit it had granted in March for the operation of the outdoor art event," Kaplan said.

He offered an explanation as to the reasoning behind the cancellation.

“Because of the governor’s executive order limiting outdoor gatherings to 100 people, and the Oakland County Health Department demanding the event not be held because of health concerns," Kaplan said. "Normally, there are more than 3,000 people who attend over the two days over the weekend, sometimes 5,000. This year we weren’t expecting 5,000 because of the pandemic, but there might (have) been 1,000 or 1,500.”
