HARRISON TOWNSHIP — A 47-year-old Harrison Township man drowned in Lake St. Clair Nov. 3 after his 12-foot aluminum fishing boat capsized, Macomb County Sheriff’s Officials say.

According to Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, the body of Craig Richard Aquino was recovered at 10:55 a.m. Nov. 4 following an extensive search by members of his Marine Division dive team and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Wickersham reports that Aquino’s boat had been found overturned in Lake St. Clair near the mouth of the Clinton River yesterday afternoon. According to his girlfriend, he had left to go fishing at approximately 3:30 p.m. that Monday.

It was at approximately 4:20 p.m. when the Macomb County Dispatch Center received a report from a Harrison Township resident who heard calls for help from a boater on the lake.

Marine Division deputies and the Coast Guard were dispatched to an area between MacRay Harbor and the mouth of the Clinton River, where they located the overturned boat. They also found a dead Boston Terrier floating nearby.

An area search was conducted, however the man could not be located. The search was suspended at approximately 1 a.m. Nov. 4.

Lt. John Michalke from the sheriff’s department said members of the dive team resumed the search at 8 a.m.
