Two men face felony murder charges after they crashed into and killed JV Binkley, 48, a vending machne supplier from Ann Arbor, in a Troy office parking lot.

Police said Binkley was making a delivery at 500 Kirts Blvd., west of Livernois Road, south of Big Beaver Road, just before 9 a.m. May 24.

Anthony Rene Griffin, 41, of Detroit, was arraigned June 28 in 52-4 District Court on charges of felony murder and failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death. He was denied bond.

Jerry Burton, 37, of Detroit, was arraigned on a charge of felony murder. According to a press release, Burton was Griffin’s accomplice and the passenger in the vehicle. Burton was also denied bond.

Police said they believe the two were preparing to steal from Binkley’s delivery truck when he was struck and killed. After hitting Binkley, the suspects fled the scene, the release states.

Both appeared in court without attorneys and requested court-appointed attorneys. They had not been assigned at press time.

Police said that initially, they had very few leads. “It was a team of investigators,” said Sgt. Meghan Lehman. “Through persistence and hard work, a lot of puzzle pieces came together to build a solid case.”
