MOUNT CLEMENS — Axalta Coating Systems in Mount Clemens has been helping keep the Macomb County Santa Parade a highly anticipated annual tradition for the past decade.

The parade, which traditionally features dozens of floats and attracts thousands of people to downtown Mount Clemens, has kicked off the Christmas season in Macomb County for more than 40 years.

And for more than 10 years, one of the city’s largest employers, Axalta Coating Systems, a global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, has supported the community event as a presenting sponsor.

The parade features bands, floats and business sponsors, and it culminates with Santa Claus riding his sleigh down Main Street.

On Feb. 21, Mount Clemens Mayor Barb Dempsey visited Axalta’s research and manufacturing facility on Groesbeck Highway to thank the company and its employees for their support of the community tradition.

“This parade is a special tradition in Mount Clemens, and thanks to our presenting sponsor, Axalta, and all our supporters, we can keep the parade alive for our children,” Dempsey said.

The mayor presented a commemorative plaque to new Mount Clemens Plant Manager Jakob Schroeder.

“Our employees are very enthusiastic about the parade. In fact, I was briefed on it during one of my first days on the job,” said Schroeder. “This tradition is also important to our customers and the community in which we work and live. Sponsoring this parade is a great way for us to connect with many of our stakeholders.”

Axalta plans to return as the presenting sponsor of the Macomb County Santa Parade in 2017.
