SHELBY TOWNSHIP — With teamwork from C & G Newspapers and Mattress To Go, a family has new gifts that will let them rest easy this Christmas, literally.

This year, the two businesses were able to work together to get a family in Center Line — who had been sleeping on their floors — three twin-size mattresses and bedding to go with them. The mattresses were delivered Dec. 19.

The three twin-size mattresses were donated by Mattress To Go, which is owned by Jeff Scheuer and is located at 51260 Van Dyke Ave. in Shelby Township. C & G Newspapers raised money among its staff to buy the family Christmas presents and bedding. Additionally, C & G Newspapers staff raised enough money to adopt two other families for Christmas.

Scheuer said he made giving back to the community a big part of his business, and he focuses on those who need it most.

“For over 20 years, I’ve made giving back part of our Mattress To Go mission statement, with a special emphasis on children and domestic violence shelters through our Comfort For Everyone campaign,” Scheuer said.

This year alone, Scheuer has helped many families, and when C & G Newspapers contacted him, he wanted to make a difference in the Center Line family’s lives too.

“We’d already helped out three different families this Christmas season, but we were contacted by our C & G sales representative, Diane Mosier, about a family with three children without adequate mattresses, so we wanted to find a way to help them out as well. We were able to provide three new twin Therapedic mattress sets for them, so they’ll now have a healthy and comfortable place to rest at the end of the day,” said Scheuer.

The family of four from Center Line was happy with their special gifts just days before Christmas.

“I like that it’s off the floor. I don’t have to sleep on the floor anymore. I like the blue and purple colors; they are my favorite,” said Juliana Andrachick, 11.

Their mother, Brittany Andrachick, said her children would be happy waking up to Christmas this year.
