MOUNT CLEMENS — A suspect is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing a man with a shotgun, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Renee Yax said the victim was Jovon Houston, 26, of Mount Clemens. At approximately 11:55 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a residence on Court Street.

A woman, reportedly Houston’s girlfriend, called 911 after a man allegedly broke into her home and shot Houston. The suspect reportedly broke in through a side door and entered the bedroom, where Houston was laying in bed.

The suspect allegedly shot Houston multiple times with a shotgun, “striking him in the face, shoulder and leg” prior to leaving the scene. Houston was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The woman was unharmed.

The suspect, who was identified as the caller’s ex-boyfriend, was later located on foot in Clinton Township. He was taken into custody and is currently lodged at the Macomb County Jail.

The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the matter. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at (586) 783-8118.
