MACOMB TOWNSHIP — A case centered around a dead body found in Macomb Township is now being investigated as a suicide.

Just before 6 a.m. March 23, Macomb County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Ascension St. John Hospital Health Center at 23 Mile in Macomb Township. Police said a deceased man was found outside the hospital, near 23 Mile and Romeo Plank Roads.

At that time, authorities said the death was suspicious.

By March 26, police revealed the death was being investigated as a suicide and is no longer suspicious in nature.

Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Renee Yax said the individual has been identified, and his family has been notified. She added that the office does not release an individual’s information in a suicide case.

A copy of the police report states that deputies were dispatched to the area for a welfare check. According to the report, prior to arrival, dispatch advised to responding deputies that a man was lying on the sidewalk near the southeast entrance.

“Dispatch informed deputies the caller believed an unknown male was not breathing and possibly deceased,” according to the report.

Upon arrival, a pair of deputies observed the man lying face up with no pulse and no rising of the chest, and he was cold to the touch.

The reporting officer observed the individual wearing sneakers, sweatpants and a hoodie. A winter hat and vape pen were reportedly located near the body.

“Several spots of blood were located on the sidewalk leading up to the body,” according to the report.

The reporting officer noted that he observed bloody scrapes on both knees, both palms, the right cheek and the right side of nose, as well as a cut near the top of the right eyebrow.

Several other deputies then arrived at the scene, to assist with securing the area. Shelby Township Police Department officers also assisted, arriving with a fingerprint scanner to help in possibly identifying the individual.
