A home on John R Road, south of Long Lake Road, across the street from the Troy Police and Fire Training Center, caught fire just after 1:30 p.m. June 1.

Troy Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Riesterer said that when the blaze was reported, the daughter of the homeowner, who lives nearby, was at the scene and confirmed that nobody was in the home.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a fire on the exterior of the south side of the medium-sized, two-story home, according to reports. Firefighters put out the fire on the outside of the home, then entered the home to see if the blaze had extended into the interior. They found fire had extended to the laundry room, and extinguished the flames.

Firefighters disconnected power from the laundry room area of the home and ventilated smoke from the inside of the home, said fire officials.

Riesterer said it appeared that, based on a preliminary investigation, the fire started on the outside of the home, but the cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Riesterer said the residents were able to return to the home.

Damage estimates were not available at press time.
