GROSSE POINTE FARMS — Grosse Pointe Farms will be closing out the summer season with a bang.

In conjunction with the end of summer park hours on Labor Day, Pier Park will be holding a daylong event, the End of Summer Bash, on Sept. 4. Exact hours and the full schedule hadn’t been announced at press time, but the festivities are slated to include bounce houses, a fishing rodeo, magic shows, cornhole, a petting zoo, a pie-eating contest, a beer tent and live music. The day will be capped off with a fireworks display that will be visible from Pier Park.

“We’re looking forward to having fireworks again,” Farms City Manager Shane Reeside said.

Because of COVID-19 concerns, last year’s annual fireworks display — which usually takes place in conjunction with the July 4-themed regatta — was canceled, along with the regatta. The regatta wasn’t held this year, either.

Reeside said the fireworks would be shot from a barge in Lake St. Clair this year, so they’ll be closer to the park and the north end of the city. This is a new location for the fireworks.

“Hopefully, it will be well received,” Reeside said of the new event.

The End of Summer event is open to Farms residents. For a full schedule and more details, see the City of Grosse Pointe Farms Facebook page.
