Harper Woods public safety investigates shooting at gas station

HARPER WOODS — The Harper Woods Department of Public Safety is investigating a shooting that took place at the Sunoco gas station at the intersection of Kelly Road and Eastwood Drive in Harper Woods.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:14 p.m. June 28. Dispatchers received reports of shots being fired in the parking lot, and officers arrived on the scene shortly after. Upon arrival, they discovered a 44-year-old Detroit man who had been wounded by gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital, and Harper Woods detectives began an investigation.

“There are no suspects or arrests at this time. The detectives are actively investigating the matter,” said Harper Woods Deputy Chief John Vorgitch. “The victim received one gunshot wound to his lower extremities.”

Police said the victim has been released from the hospital after earlier being listed in serious condition. Investigators ask anyone with information on the crime to contact the Harper Woods Department of Public Safety at (313) 343-2530.
