HARPER WOODS — Harper Woods Department of Public Safety officers are investigating an incident involving gunfire between two vehicles that took place in Harper Woods Aug. 8.

Police units were dispatched to the area of Elkhart Street and Lansdowne Avenue, in the general area of Kelly and Moross roads, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on the day of the incident. Upon arrival, witnesses reportedly told them that multiple shots had been fired between two vehicles. According to police, several shell casings were found at the scene, although the department added that it is currently unclear if the occupants of only one vehicle were firing shots, or if the occupants of both vehicles were firing shots.

After a search of the area, the department said it located one of the vehicles in Detroit. One person was detained and then released in connection to the incident, and detectives are continuing to actively investigate the matter.

Officers said there were no reports of injuries or property damage as a result of the gunfire. However, police are asking anyone with information on the matter to contact them at (313) 343-2530 or to call Crime Stoppers at (800) SPEAK-UP to make a report anonymously.
