UTICA — Get ready for some Halloween-themed competition.

Woman’s Life Chapter 911 Macomb Angels is hosting some fun Halloween events during the month of October in Utica to give back to the community, and the chapter is inviting you to join it.

The local group will host a new event, a Halloween-themed road rally fundraiser, Oct. 26 beginning at Grant Park, just off Hahn Street.

During the event, participants will receive an envelope filled with clues that they must use to figure out the next tasks to complete.

“Some stops may be taking a picture of something, figuring out puzzles, asking a stranger to do something, and a stop at a cemetery may be in the rally,” Lynn Karnes, the chapter president, said in an email.

Each task is scored with points. The team with the most points at the end wins, but there’s a twist.

“The more points you get, the better chance you have of winning the top prize. Halloween costumes are encouraged, but not required. However, bonus points will be awarded if all team members are in costume,” Karnes said.

Participants must register in advance by Oct. 14 to do the road rally. The cost to participate in the rally is $30 per car.

On the day of the rally, registration will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the road rally will start at 7 p.m.

“Once at the registration area, the teams will receive an envelope with all the clues that they have to figure out during the rally,” said Karnes.

The road rally will take place between 18 Mile and 23 Mile roads and between Hayes and Ryan roads.

There will be approximately 30 stops from which to earn points.

Karnes said that in addition to figuring out the clues and solving them, participants must finish by the deadline.

“Teams must figure out the ending location during the rally and be there by 9:11 p.m.,” she said. The time echoes their chapter number.

For completing the rally, the winning group will receive a prize of gift cards to local restaurants.

Jackie Rottmann, a member of Woman’s Life Chapter 911, said that she is looking forward to the adventure.

“I’m looking forward to figuring out all of the clues as it’s turning Macomb County into a giant, big escape room,” she said in an email.

Everyone is welcome to join in on the competition.

The group is looking for sponsors for the event. A sponsorship of $30 will include a logo on all flyers that are going to participants, a logo and link on the social media event page, and marketing materials in the guests’ envelopes.

The group will also be hosting a trick-or-treat fundraiser from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at Grant Park, and a Halloween ice cream fundraiser at Double Dippers Ashby’s Ice Cream from 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 to raise money for Woman’s Life Chapter 911 and A Mission of Love.

Grant Park is located at 8243 Hahn St.
