Clinton Township
Clinton Township's Patriot Day ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Road. Speakers will include members of the local fire department, police department and Medstar EMS; honor guards from the police department and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 154 will also be present. The "Star Spangled Banner" will be performed by J.P. Spagnuolo, a Dakota High School student with Down Syndrome who became a viral video star earlier this year after he and hundreds of fellow Cougars were filmed spontaneously singing the national anthem between classes. Farmington/Farmington Hills
The Groves-Walker American Legion Post 346, along with the cities of Farmington and Farmington Hills, will present their 21st annual Patriot Day ceremony from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Walter Sundquist Pavilion at Riley Park, 33113 Grand River Ave. in Farmington. The event will honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 people who died on Sept. 11, 2011, as well as “local heroes who serve our community every day." Grosse Pointe Farms
The War Memorial, 32 Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms, will commemorate the anniversary of the terrorist attacks at 4 p.m. Sunday. The event aims to bring together individuals of all religions, cultures and walks of life to stand against hatred, and also facilitate a spirit of unity, faith and patriotism. The names of Michigan lives lost — 19 according to a list compiled from the 9/11 National Memorial, including men from Royal Oak and Grosse Pointe — will be read. Harrison Township
The Tunnels to Towers 5K Run/Walk — which will benefit the families of deceased military personnel and first responders — will take place at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Lake St. Clair Metropark, 31300 Metro Parkway in Harrison Township. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was set up by the family of New York Fire Department firefighter Stephen Gerard Siller, who died when the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed. The national nonprofit organization Wreaths Across America is calling on people to join in waving the American flag in their own communities Sunday. Pontiac
As part of the annual 9/11 ceremony at the Michigan Fallen Heroes Memorial, 1200 N. Telegraph (Building 38E) in Pontiac, 14 new names will be unveiled at 7 p.m. Sunday. Many survivors of the law enforcement members and firefighters who gave their lives while serving the state will be in attendance. Shelby Township
Happening Sept. 12, Shelby Township will honor first responders at its 8th annual Patriot Day prayer service at 1:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial, 52700 Van Dyke Ave. The event will also pay respect to six residents who died from injuries sustained while serving in the U.S. military in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of the Global War on Terror. Troy
A 10K, 5K and 1-mile run/walk to benefit the Michigan Wounded and Returning Warriors Program will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery, 621 W. Long Lake Road in Troy. On-site registration will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 to 9 a.m. Sunday. All finishers will have dog tag-style medals placed around their necks as they cross the finish line. 2. Art and Apples Festival
Sept. 9-11 • Rochester Municipal Park
The 56th Art and Apples Festival will return to Rochester Municipal Park, 400 Sixth St., from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. More than 230 artists from around the country are scheduled to display and sell their work in 18 different fine art mediums. Guests can stop by the Creation Station for live art-making demonstrations, and children can visit the Meijer Kids Art Zone. Entertainment will be provided by Rochester-area high school bands, local dance companies and more. There will also be 15 food vendors on site throughout the weekend. 3. Barktoberfest
Sept. 10-11 • Memorial Park, Royal Oak
Humans and canines are welcome at the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce's annual Barktoberfest from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Memorial Park, 31050 Woodward Ave. The event will feature craft beer, live music, pet-related shopping and dog contests. 4. Utica Antiques Market
Sept. 10-11 • Knights of Columbus Grounds, Shelby Township
The Utica Antiques Market — which promoters call the largest outdoor event of its kind in Southeastern Michigan — will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Picnic Grounds, 11541 21 Mile Road in Shelby Township. The show began in 1986, and an average of 100 vendors set up shop during three weekends a year — the previous two events were in May and July. Admission is $5 per person and parking is free. 5. Dodge Park Food Truck Rally

Bring your empty belly to the Dodge Park Food Truck Rally from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday. Nearly 20 businesses — featuring everything from Mediterranean and Greek food to barbecue, tacos and baked goods — have been invited to the event at the intersection of Dodge Park and Utica roads in Sterling Heights.
