1. Funky Ferndale Art Fair
Sept 23-25 • Downtown Ferndale
The Funky Ferndale Art Fair will take place Sept. 23-25 on West Nine Mile Road, as well as portions of Troy and Allen streets. The event — featuring more than 100 juried artists who will be selling everything from jewelry and paintings to sculptures and mixed media — will be open from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. DIY Street Fair
Over on East Nine Mile Road and East Troy Street in Ferndale, the 14th annual DIY Street Fair will also take place this weekend, Sept. 23-25. More than 150 artists and shop owners are expected to participate. The hours are 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Festival of the Senses
Another art fair will be on the east side Sept. 24-25. Festival of the Senses — featuring more than 100 artists, specialty food vendors, performances by local entertainers and family activities — will come to the Clinton Township Civic Center, 40700 Romeo Plank Road. 2. Detroit Walk to End Hydrocephalus
Sept. 24 • River Bends Park, Shelby Township
The annual Detroit Walk to End Hydrocephalus will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 24 at River Bends Park, 5700 22 Mile Road in Shelby Township. Hydrocephalus is a chronic neurological condition caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within cavities of the brain called ventricles, which results in pressure on the brain. There is no cure, but it can be treated. The event will feature a 5K walk, a raffle, music, food and popular children’s characters Mickey Mouse, Elmo, Spider-Man and more. 3. North American International Auto Show
Sept. 23-25 • Downtown Detroit
The North American International Auto Show is back in Detroit after a 2-year hiatus, and will conclude its weeklong run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 23-24 and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 25. This year’s show has an emphasis on electric vehicles, with many on display — including EVs from the big three — at Huntington Place, formerly Cobo Center. Attendees can find monster truck and motocross demonstrations, food trucks, and live entertainment down the street at Hart Plaza. There are also activities in Spirit Plaza and Campus Martius Park. Jammin’ at the Junction
The Roseville Downtown Development Authority will host Jammin’ at the Junction from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 24 on Utica Road, which will close from 12 Mile Road to Gratiot Avenue for the event. Anyone who owns a customized vehicle, new car or souped-up motorcycle can display it alongside other car buffs. North Gratiot Cruise
Also on Sept. 24 and just a few miles up the road will be the North Gratiot Cruise in Chesterfield Township. Events will include a car show at 10 a.m., parade at noon and cruising along Gratiot Avenue between Hall Road and 23 Mile Road from noon to 6 p.m. Cruise headquarters will be at the Value City Furniture/Kohl's shopping area, south of 23 Mile Road. Concours d’Elegance
For residents of any of the Grosse Pointes, the 15th annual Concours d’Elegance — scheduled for noon-3 p.m. Sept. 25 at Pier Park in Grosse Pointe Farms — will offer a chance to admire classic European and American vehicles, along with other special rides. 4. Heritage Celebration
Sept. 23 • Heritage Park, Farmington Hills
The annual Heritage Celebration will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at Heritage Park, 24915 Farmington Road in Farmington Hills. Partake in a hayride, campfire, games and historical displays, all for $8 ($5 without the hayride, and free for ages 2 and younger); a s'mores and cider kit can be added for $1. 5. 'Joseph' / 'Arsenic and Old Lace'
Sept. 23-25 • Grosse Pointe Woods / Birmingham
“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” — the opening show in Grosse Pointe Theatre’s 75th season — will finish its run Sept. 23-25 at Grosse Pointe North High School’s Christian A. Fenton Performing Arts Center, 707 Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. The Birmingham Village Players is also celebrating a big anniversary with its 100th season. The third-oldest community theater in Michigan and one of the oldest in the country will finish staging the 1940s classic “Arsenic and Old Lace" Sept. 23-25.
