1. Victorian Christmas
Dec. 16-18 • Troy
Experience the holidays as they were celebrated during the 1850s and '60s at the Victorian Christmas event this weekend at Troy Historic Village, 60 W. Wattles Road. Costumed reenactors will perform activities of the season, such as decorating and exchanging gifts. Families can partake in carols, crafts and shopping, listen to music, and enjoy hot cider and cocoa. Hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. 2. Wreaths Across America
Dec. 17 • Clinton Township
National Wreaths Across America Day — which remembers the fallen heroes who served in the U.S. military — will be held at noon Saturday at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Road in Clinton Township. The annual event will feature a color guard, a flyover, the playing of taps and the laying of wreaths over the graves of veterans. For more information, visit wreathsacrossamerica.org.
3. 'Home for the Holidays' concerts
Dec. 16-18 • Detroit
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will play carols and classics for two hours during each of its six "Home for the Holidays" concerts this weekend at Orchestra Hall at the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center, 3711 Woodward Ave. in Detroit. The performances are scheduled for 10:45 a.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday; all will include an appearance by Santa Claus. 4. 'Brightest and Best' holiday concerts
Dec. 16-17 • Farmington Hills
The Farmington Chorus will perform its "Brightest and Best" holiday concerts at 8 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at The Hawk - Farmington Hills Community Center, 29995 W. 12 Mile Road. The group is comprised of about 80 members from metro Detroit, and will be accompanied this weekend by a viola player from the Lansing Symphony Orchestra. 5. 'Menorah in the D'
Dec. 18 • Detroit
This Sunday is the first night of Hanukkah, and Campus Martius in downtown Detroit will celebrate with "Menorah in the D" at 5 p.m. Festivities will include the lighting of a 26-foot-tall Detroit Menorah; a fire show and strolling entertainment; face painting, crafts and games for kids; glow-in-the-dark giveaways; complimentary soup, snacks and cider; a kosher food truck; photos with Dreidel Man and Smile Man; and more.
