CENTER LINE — Tips from an alert passerby led to the arrest of three of five suspects allegedly responsible for an armed robbery at the 7-Eleven store at Van Dyke Avenue and Stephens Road early Nov. 28.

“We have three suspects in custody. There was a pursuit and it ended up in Detroit, and three out of five suspects were apprehended for an armed robbery of 7-Eleven,” said Lt. Michael Gerald of the Center Line Public Safety Department.

The robbery took place at about 4 a.m. inside of the store on the border between Center Line and Warren. Only the clerk was in the store at the time.

“Two of the five (suspects) walked in, implied a handgun, took some money and merchandise and took off running. There were three others in a vehicle,” Gerald said.

“There was a passerby that called in that saw the guys running from the store with masks on and the caller ended up following them,” Gerald said.

The caller “in the right place at the right time” provided information that led police to the suspects within 15 minutes, he said.

One of the arrested suspects now faces a conspiracy to commit armed robbery charge and a felony count of fleeing and eluding. Two other suspects face charges of resisting and obstructing. Two more people remain at large, and the investigation remains ongoing.
