SHELBY TOWNSHIP/UTICA — A local group will be hosting an event to raise money for its hygiene pantry in Shelby Township.

Woman’s Life Chapter 911 will be hosting its first socially distanced event of 2021 at Jimmy John’s Field in Utica on June 20, Father’s Day.

The fundraiser will include an afternoon watching some baseball downtown, as the gates will open at noon. The game will start at 1:05 p.m. and go until around 4 p.m.

Lynn Karnes, the Woman’s Life Chapter 911 president, said that each ticket purchased will contribute to the local pantry to help those who are in need.

“We will be celebrating Father’s Day at the field. Grandstand tickets are $25 and include a grandstand seat, hot dog, bag of chips, and a 12-ounce beer or soda. Ten dollars of each ticket purchase goes to our organization to help us purchase hygiene items for our community hygiene pantry in Shelby Township,” she said.

Tickets must be purchased in pods of four to follow COVID-19 restrictions.

“Tickets must be purchased by May 20 in order for us to receive credit for the event. We are very excited to be able to hold this event and be able to maintain social distancing,” she said.

The hygiene pantry is located in a suite at 22 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue and is open to Shelby Township and Utica residents, in addition to residents of surrounding communities.

Woman’s Life Chapter 911 is collecting a variety of hygiene products to stock the pantry. Anyone can donate items. The fundraiser will raise money for the group to buy supplies for the pantry.

Becky Livernois, of Sterling Heights, said she already takes her dad out to the field, and he really enjoys the games.

“I love taking my Dad to Jimmy John’s Field. It’s easy for him to move around the stadium, there’s not a bad seat in the place, and the atmosphere makes you really feel like you are part of the game. Very affordable for the budget too,” she said.

Cyndee Rivera, of Sterling Heights, said she and her dad are already looking forward to a fun time together on Father’s Day while also benefiting a good cause.

“My family is really looking forward to attending the baseball game at Jimmy John’s Field on June 20. We can’t wait for this fun, outdoor family activity that has safe, social-distancing measures in place, while supporting Woman’s Life Chapter 911 for their fundraising needs. The fact that we are supporting such a wonderful organization with its fundraising — with a fun, safe activity — makes it even more exciting,” she said.

Jimmy John’s Field is located at 7171 Auburn Road in Utica.
