OAKLAND COUNTY — The Oakland County Food Policy Council wants to know what’s on the menu in your neck of the woods. The council recently launched a survey to gather information about the county’s food system and residents’ eating habits. Anyone age 18 or older is welcome to take the survey through April 16 online or via hard copy obtained from the council.

ROCHESTER — Residents of the Rochester area may soon have a farmers market they can visit throughout the year.
Rochester Downtown Development Authority Director Kristi Trevarrow said the DDA and the Principal Shopping District are looking into the idea of a year-round farmers market following the results of a downtown visioning session at the Royal Park Hotel in April.

CLAWSON — The 2017 Clawson Farmers Market season will open this weekend with its popular Flower Day and will continue straight through to fall with a record number of vendors since the event’s inception and a wider selection of goods.
The market will open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at City Park at Elmwood and Custer avenues. It will continue with those hours each Sunday through September.

HARPER WOODS — For those looking to exercise their green thumbs this spring, the Harper Woods Beautification Committee is inviting the public to join in on its annual perennial plant exchange from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 20, at Salter Park.
The exchange allows residents to, at no cost, trade a flower, vegetable or other plant from their garden with those from their neighbors’ gardens.

FARMINGTON — On April 29, the last day of the Winter Artisan Market, two Miss Farmington 2017 contestants dug up and chucked dirt to make way for potted purple and green coral bells.
On that crisp morning, friends Taylor Terry, 16, and Jillian Dutch, 17, alongside Terry’s father, Mark Terry, helped spruce up the Farmington Masonic Lodge 151, 23715 Farmington Road. They did it to honor past and present veterans and to beautify the lodge. About seven Miss Farmington contestants helped out.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — On Saturday, May 20, the ninth annual Shelby Farmers Market will once again pop up on the Packard Proving Grounds’ front yard.
The outdoor market will take place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays from May 20 to Oct. 21, rain or shine.
This year, market manager Mary Anne Demo said, the Shelby Farmers Market will feature an emphasis on food trucks, with a portable kitchen on wheels setting up shop at the event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each week.
At press time, Demo said only the first week did not yet have a scheduled food truck.

LATHRUP VILLAGE — Some details have been tweaked, but the annual summertime staple in the village is back.
Returning May 10, the Lathrup Village Farmers Market this year has changed locations.
Formerly held at Lathrup Village City Hall, 27400 Southfield Road, the market now takes place on the tennis court at Annie Lathrup School, 27700 Southfield Road.
The market will run 1:30-7 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 18.

Kaul Funeral Home is looking for green thumbs, and those who just want to help, to install and maintain a community garden on the north side of the VFW Bruce Post 1146 property west of Lake St. Clair.

BIRMINGHAM — The popular Birmingham Farmers Market not only opened this past weekend, it celebrated its 15th birthday.
The market, which will be open through October, returned Sunday to Municipal Parking Lot 6, on North Old Woodward. The 9 a.m.-2 p.m. market has plenty of old favorites and some new vendors who will make appearances every week throughout the summer and fall.

ROCHESTER — The best of southeast Michigan’s growing season will soon come to Rochester.
The Downtown Rochester Farmers Market, now in its 18th season, will open May 6 at the corner of East Third and Water Street, just one block east of Main Street. The outdoor market will continue 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 28.
Taylor Clayton, marketing coordinator for the Rochester Downtown Development Authority, said the market is a staple in the Rochester area.

ROYAL OAK — A group of vendors and farmers gathered last week to show their concern with proposed plans for a new City Hall.
Nearly a dozen people came from throughout the area to speak before City Commission members during the regular Feb. 27 meeting regarding plans showing a newly constructed City Hall just south of the Royal Oak Farmers Market at Troy and Third streets, and the ramifications the building could have on parking.
