A family of four in Rochester Hills escaped a house fire early in the morning Christmas Eve.

The Rochester Hills Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 2700 block of Hickory Lawn at approximately 5:45 a.m. Dec. 24 and arrived to find fire coming from the front of the house. The family of four — two adults and two children — along with their dog and bird, were out of the house when the Fire Department arrived.

Firefighters from Rochester Hills, Oakland Township and the city of Rochester deployed their hose lines to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported, according to the Rochester Hills Fire Department.

Crews said the fire was confined to the outside of the home, with minimal damage to the interior.

The fire was determined to be “accidental” in nature, according to John Lyman of the Rochester HIlls Fire Department, who said the fire damage is estimated at $5,000.
