LATHRUP VILLAGE — Although summer has come and gone, there’s still some fun to be had in Lathrup Village. The 20th annual Fall Family Festival will soon be underway.

On Sunday, Sept. 27, Lathrup Village residents and residents from surrounding communities will gather at Lathrup Village City Hall, 27400 Southfield Road, to enjoy all things fall.

For a $7 admission price, people will be served lunch, cider and doughnuts, and can enjoy various fall activities such as a petting zoo, horse and pony rides, and train rides 1-4 p.m.

While the event is in its 20th year, last year, approximately 600 people attended, according to Recreation Coordinator Maralee Rosemond, and the numbers keep growing each year. Rosemond attributes the loyal crowds to the nostalgic feeling of the event.

“It’s just one of those fall family favorites that people want to stay pretty much the same,” Rosemond said.

Rain or shine, Rosemond said, the event gives families a way to relax on a Sunday afternoon.

“It’s something people always look forward to because it’s low key — it’s not anything high tech — there’s pumpkins, horses and train rides,” Rosemond said.

The event is sponsored by the Lathrup Village Recreation Department, the Lathrup Village Homeowners Association, the Lathrup Village Downtown Development Authority, and Fortson Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in Lathrup Village.

City Administrator Matt Baumgarten said the DDA will be supplying all of the pumpkins at the event. He said he is hopeful that the event will show off what Lathrup Village is all about.

“It’s a great way to get (people) into our village center, and it’s a fine way for families to enjoy the community feel that Lathrup has,” Baumgarten said. “At the end of the day, it’s just good, clean fun.”

Dr. Cory Fortson, of Fortson Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, said his business decided to get involved with the Fall Family Festival because of the event’s strong emphasis on community. Fortson is sponsoring the cider and doughnuts.

“It’ll be fun for the kids to get out and have some good cider and doughnuts, and get the community out and talking,” Fortson said.

Each child attending the event will be given a free pumpkin.

Tickets will be available for purchase at the event.
