EASTPOINTE — Eastpointe’s Music in the Plaza concert series had newcomer Eastside Drive playing hit songs during the July 25 concert behind Eastpointe City Hall.

The year’s one remaining performance was scheduled for  6:30 p.m. Aug. 8 with Jibs Brown, who plays acoustic guitar songs, Motown, blues and original music.

Eastside Drive consists of Gerry Mattei, lead guitar and vocals; Mark Pittel, keyboards and vocals; Michael DeLaura, percussion; Robert Jankowski, bass guitar; Colleen Beaton, vocalist and percussion; and Paul Witulski, guitar and vocals.

Witulski said the band plays music that its members all love and enjoy. The band delivers a quality performance to audiences who enjoy classic American-inspired Rock ’n’ Roll.

All the members of Eastside Drive grew up on the east side of Detroit, and they all have similar tastes in music.

“The idea was to put together a cover band that plays everything we like well,” said Witulski. “We do classic rock, some standards and some Al Green, rhythm and blues, and others. It’s pretty eclectic.”

Witulski said he hopes the band “will be able to play at Music in the Plaza next year.”

“Eastside Drive is one of the best-sounding bands we’ve ever had for Music in the Plaza,” said Bill Driskell, public information assistant for the city. “Great musicians, solid vocals and a great set list that had the audience dancing all night long. We’d love to have them back next year.”
