EASTPOINTE — The Eastpointe police are investigating a drive-by shooting that took place June 23.

The department reported that at approximately 3:30 a.m., four individuals were in a car in a driveway on Stephens Road, near its intersection with Hayes Avenue, when a black Dodge Charger passed the vehicle, turned around and drove slowly by heading east on Stephens. As it did, police said, one or more people opened fire at the car as it sat in the driveway.

Police added that despite several rounds striking the victims’ car, no injuries were reported.

“A number of rounds were fired, the car was hit, but fortunately none of the occupants were hit,” explained Eastpointe Deputy Police Chief Eric Keiser. “The driver of the victim’s car then accelerated rapidly to get away and hit a tree. The suspects fled in an unknown direction.”

Keiser said the Eastpointe Police Department collected evidence and spoke to the victims, who stated that they didn’t know why the shooting had happened.

No description of the suspects was determined and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Eastpointe police at (586) 445-5100, ext. 1.
