EASTPOINTE — The Eastpointe Memorial Day Parade Committee announced May 11 that the 2021 Memorial Day Parade has been canceled.

The committee met May 10 and made what it said was a difficult decision to cancel the longtime Eastpointe tradition this year due to health concerns regarding COVID-19.

“We only had 7 registration forms submitted, and we felt that it simply did not justify the expense to the city,” the committee said in a social media post. “We are looking at possibly reviving the Veterans Day parade in November. The parade committee is looking for new faces to help start planning for future parades. If we get some more involvement on the planning side, maybe we can avoid future cancellations like this.”

The committee meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Michigan Military Technical and Historical Society Museum, located at 16600 Stephens Road. The next meeting will take place on Monday, June 14.
