EASTPOINTE — A homicide investigation led to the arrest of a suspect after an Eastpointe man was found dead in his home near Stephens Road and Interstate 94 on Sept. 29.

According to a press release published on social media by the Eastpointe Police and Fire Department, the 38-year-old resident was found in the basement of his home in the 24000 block of Ridgecroft Avenue at about 1:20 p.m. Sept. 29.

“The investigation revealed that the victim was shot multiple times in his basement by an unknown person(s),” the department shared. “Our department pastors were sent to the scene to comfort the relatives of the victim.”

Eastpointe Public Safety Director George Rouhib said the victim’s ex-girlfriend notified police after she arrived at the home with his children.

“It was his birthday,” Rouhib said. “His ex-girlfriend went there with his kids to bring him a cake, and that’s when they found him.”

On Oct. 1, the department posted an update on social media about the arrest.

“Our police detectives and undercover officers have been working around the clock in regards to the homicide that took place on Ridgecroft Street. As a result of their persistent efforts, they have arrested a 32-year-old male out of Detroit for the murder of our victim,” the updated statement reads. “Search warrants were executed, and evidence of the murder was located.”

Once assembled, police said the investigative reports will be given to Macomb County prosecutors for a decision on charges.

The name of the suspect was withheld pending formal arraignment.

The Eastpointe Police Department thanked the Macomb County Violent Crimes Task Force, the Detroit Police Violent Crimes Unit and the Detroit Police Department for assistance with the case.

Police said the homicide was Eastpointe’s first this year.
