EASTPOINTE — The city of Eastpointe is welcoming a new assistant city manager, Mariah Walton.

Walton joined the city of Eastpointe’s staff in April of 2020 as an assistant to the city manager and was officially promoted to assistant city manager Feb. 8. She is taking over the position from Brian Fairbrother.

“I came from the Kent County Circuit Court in Grand Rapids, Michigan,” said Walton. “I finished my master’s at Grand Valley State University in public administration, and a position as assistant to the city manager for (human resources) and purchasing opened, so I was very excited to join the team.”

City Manager Elke Doom said Walton was exactly who the city was looking for and that she had been a great fit with the other staff and administrators since coming to the city.

“Mariah came to us to work in the HR department, and she excelled and really embraced the position and did so well with it so that when this assistant city manager position opened, we knew she was the right person for the job,” said Doom. “She has the energy, the drive, the interest and the community heart we were looking for.”

Walton said she hopes to be an active member of the community and continue what she believes is great work that has been done in recent years.

“I want to embrace the community and embrace everyone who works here since I am in human resources,” she said. “There’s an amazing team here. There’s great leadership. Elke has been super supportive of all the employees, and I want to continue that and follow her lead.”
