EASTPOINTE — An Eastpointe man is dead after his vehicle crashed into the side of a home on Nine Mile Road shortly after midnight July 31.

Eastpointe police officers are investigating the matter. They said the man was alone in a truck when he somehow lost control and crashed into the house, located in the 15000 block of Nine Mile, near Hayes Avenue. Two individuals were inside the house when the crash happened, but police said that neither was hurt.

“From what we know, the deceased gentleman, Christopher Parks, a 56-year-old Eastpointe resident, was driving a 2007 Ford F-150,” Eastpointe Director of Public Safety George Rouhib said. “He was traveling eastbound on Nine MIle. When he passed Linwood, witnesses reported him slumped over the wheel. A moment later the vehicle accelerated and sped into the side of a nearby residence. Fortunately, the two homeowners who were home were not injured. Unfortunately, the victim had no vitals when first responders arrived. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.”

Rouhib said that police are awaiting results from the medical examiner regarding the cause of the crash.

“The Wayne County morgue is conducting an autopsy, so we are waiting on a cause of death,” he said. “Our theory was he may have been suffering from a medical condition, which caused him to be slumped over the wheel of his car before the car took off and hit the house. We believe he was on his way to work at the time. Someone at his place of work recognized his truck and helped identify him.”
