FERNDALE/DETROIT — A potential person of interest has been found in the killing of a Ferndale woman, and the Detroit Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify the man.

Lily Camara, 28, was reported missing to the Ferndale Police Department by a friend of her family July 5. Camara was last seen at approximately 5:30 p.m. July 2, after she had dropped off her child at her parents’ home in Ann Arbor. Camara was expected to attend an event that same day in metro Detroit, but she never showed.

One day after Camara’s disappearance, at approximately 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, the Detroit Fire Department discovered human remains inside a location in the 14000 block of Young Street, which is near Gratiot Avenue and Houston Whittier Street. According to a press release from Detroit police, the remains were “burned beyond recognition.”

The burned body was positively identified as Camara July 7.

On Monday, Aug. 26, Detroit police sent out a media release with security camera footage of a person of interest who was last seen driving Camara’s missing vehicle, a black 2017 Ford Edge. The media release does not state the date and time of the video footage.

The footage shows a black man with a medium complexion, according to Detroit police, at a Valero gas station. He was wearing a tan bucket hat, a blue T-shirt and dark-colored Nike pants.

Anyone with information on Camara’s death or who knows the person of interest’s whereabouts is asked to call the Detroit Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (313) 596-2260 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK UP, which is (800) 773-2587.
