WARREN — A 10-year-old boy died of a gunshot wound sustained at the Warren Manor apartment complex shortly after 1 p.m. on July 22.

Warren Police Lt. John Barnes said an investigation was in progress after the child was shot in the chest and transported to Children’s Hospital in Detroit in critical condition. He confirmed that the boy died later in the afternoon.

Police initially said the shooting was possibly accidental. Investigators remained on the scene on the east side of Dequindre Road south of Nine Mile Road after 4 p.m., where a door to one of the buildings remained cordoned off with police tape.

Several juveniles were reportedly interviewed by Warren detectives and the investigation remained ongoing.
