HARPER WOODS — Detroit resident Clarence Steen is excited to once again bring his Detroit-themed photography to the Harper Woods Friends of the Library Artisans Market.

Steen participated in the inaugural event last year and enjoyed the experience.

“It is spectacular,” he said of the event. “It helps promote my photography.”

Besides promoting his work, Steen said it exposes others to different parts of Detroit.

Some of the attendees at last year’s event purchased some of his pieces to send to other states as gifts to others — a little piece of Detroit.

“That’s part of my legacy: to know that my photographs are out of state in other places,” Steen said.

Since he’s retired, Steen said he’s been able to devote more of his time to his photography.

He’s been getting the word out about this year’s event to people he knows. He’s had other artists and crafters ask if they can take part and he tells them all they have to do is call and sign up.

The event will be held at the Harper Woods Library from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 7.

As of August, organizers have been attracting local artists for this year’s event. More space is available for additional artists to sign up.

“We have 12 very talented artists signed up at this time,” Friends of the Library President Mary Kingston said in an email last month. “The handmade items will include jewelry, pastries, sewn items including BBQ covers, chocolates, greeting cards and stationery, tote bags, photographs, mouse pads, a very handy ‘prop-a-book,’ wool-lined fleece mittens, handmade slippers, holiday/team-themed décor, knitted hats and knitted socks.”

Besides artists, the event will include entertainment and a raffle.

“We are very excited about our second Artisans Market,” she said.

Artists can sign up to take part in the event by calling Mary at (313) 881-7797 or Kathleen at (313) 343-0297.
