BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — During the winter months, while we’re cooped up in our homes waiting for the sun and foliage to return, it can seem like the world has come to a standstill.

It’s nice to have a reminder that everything around us, if you look closely, is still in motion.

If you think you can capture a moment of movement in time — and you happen to be a Bloomfield Township resident — the Bloomfield Township Public Library’s annual amateur photo contest is for you.

This year’s theme is, you guessed it, “In Motion.” Think birds in flight, dogs running or waves crashing onto the beach, said Assistant Library Director Tera Moon.

“This is our fourth photo contest,” she said. “Each year, it’s fun to see how the theme is interpreted, and so far this year is no different.”

Submissions to the contest can be in color or black and white, digital or print. People of all ages are eligible to compete, as long as the shutterbug is a resident and the image was shot between May 1, 2019, and March 15.

The deadline to enter photos is midnight March 15, and the winners will be announced about a month later, at a special reception Saturday, April 18.

Along with all the accolades that come with the title, the winner can look forward to some sweet goodies, said library board President Judy Lindstrom.

“We encourage residents to get creative in order to win one of our wonderful prizes, donated by Woodward Camera, Toyology and Roberts Restaurants,” Lindstrom said in an email.

Details about the fourth annual library photo contest can be found at btpl.org or by calling (248) 642-5800. The Bloomfield Township Public Library is located at 1099 Lone Pine Road in Bloomfield Township.
