ST. CLAIR SHORES — Imagine going to a movie for a reasonable price and getting popcorn too.

Think it’s a pipe dream?

With a new partnership between Emagine Entertainment and the St. Clair Shores Public Library, it’s a reality.

“We have been pursuing some different community programs, and one of the things we decided to do was team up with libraries,” said Dale Jaslove, director of business development and community outreach for Emagine Entertainment.

Through the partnership, anyone with a St. Clair Shores Public Library card can show it at any Emagine theater in southeast Michigan to receive a movie ticket and a small popcorn for $8 per person on the first Monday and third Wednesday of each month.

The offer is available for any showtime during those days, and the library card holder can also purchase additional passes and popcorn for their guests at the same price.

In 2018, the offer is good July 2 and 18, Aug. 6 and 15, Sept. 3 and 19, Oct. 1 and 17, Nov. 5 and 21, and Dec. 3 and 19. There are Emagine theaters in Royal Oak, Macomb Township, Rochester Hills, Birmingham and Novi.

“I think it’s just another way for libraries and businesses and organizations to partner,” said St. Clair Shores Public Library Director Rosemary Orlando. “We’re excited to have our library card do so much more.”

Orlando said that patrons can pick up a flyer at the library, located at 22500 E. 11 Mile Road, that spells out all the dates and details for the promotion.

“We felt this gives an opportunity to some community folks during weekdays to see a movie,” Jaslove said. “During the weekdays, our movies are a little slower, so we wanted to give an opportunity to give a better value during the week.”

He said that Emagine enjoys partnering with the libraries to give more value to customers in the community.

“This is a great offer for their members and, (by) collaborating, I think we can end up offering a lot of programs that mean a lot to the community,” he said.

Orlando said she is happy to add one more program to the list of benefits that St. Clair Shores library patrons receive, from access to online music to the museum pass program and more.

“It’s another way that businesses are recognizing how important and valuable libraries are,” she said.

Libraries in Shelby Township, Fraser, Harrison Township and Ray Township in Macomb County, along with several libraries in Oakland County and the Detroit Public Library, are also participating in the program. Each library has a different night that its patrons can receive discounts.

“Libraries are exciting, and one thing leads to another,” Jaslove said. “They are creative and innovative and resourceful.”
